Sending an iMessage Internationally
Got friends or family living in another country? Good news! You can text them using iMessage without worrying about crazy costs. That’s right, sending an iMessage is free, as long as you’re not getting charged a fortune for data. So, if you’ve got a good data plan or a handy Wi-Fi connection, you’re all set to chat away.
Now, before you hit send, there’s a little trick to make sure you’re actually using iMessage and not sending a costly international SMS. Here’s what you need to check:
- Starting a new chat? Make sure the contact info (name, number, or email) shows up in blue, not green. That’s iMessage territory. If their phone number is green but their email is blue, go with the email to stay in the iMessage zone.
- Already have a chat going? Just check if it says ‘iMessage’ in the text box or if the ‘Send’ button is blue. That means you’re good to go with iMessage.
